Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install an app?

No. This runs in your mobile browser using the standard camera API — nothing to download or grant ongoing permissions to.

Why will the camera not open?

Browsers only allow camera access over a secure HTTPS connection. If the camera is unavailable, use the Upload photos button instead — on mobile that opens your camera directly anyway.

Can I make my scans searchable?

Yes. Create the PDF here, then run it through our Make Searchable (OCR) tool to add a text layer you can search and copy from.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly — your file is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never seen by us. You can confirm it by opening your browser's Network tab while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads: it still works.
